Foot Care for Sporting Injuries in Beenleigh

At Beenleigh Podiatry Centre, we see a lot of patients who have injured their feet while playing sports. High-impact activities such as basketball, soccer, running, football, and cricket can all lead to injuries that require specialist treatment. The forces between your feet and the ground are amplified during high-impact activity, making it easy to injure your feet. If you have injured your foot while playing a sport, we recommend coming in to see us for a consultation. We will be able to assess your injury and provide you with the necessary treatment.

Common Sporting Foot Injuries

Your individual biomechanics affect the likelihood of having certain injuries. For example, you may be more susceptible to Achilles tendonitis if you have high arches. You may be more likely to develop shin splints or stress fractures if you have flat feet. Sports people may also encounter thickened nails that can sometimes become ingrown or get bruises under the nail from repetitive trauma.

We often see patients with overuse syndromes, which are injuries that occur from repeated action, such as long-distance running. These injuries can be quite debilitating and often require professional treatment to heal correctly. Occasionally, overuse syndromes can lead to chronic pain or disability.

Treatment for Sports Injuries

Our podiatry team will start with a biomechanics assessment to look at your posture, strength, flexibility and movement. We'll also analyse how the movement of your feet affects your lower limbs. We may recommend stretches, strengthening exercises, physical therapies and/or orthotics based on our findings. We'll also closely examine your sports shoes to ensure they provide the support you need.
